Geta

Filed under: Emperors — admin @ 10:55 am

Publius Septimius Geta born in 189 and co-ruled with his father Septimius Severus and older brother Caracalla from 209 until 211 when he was murdered by his brother.Growing up was difficult for Geta as he was always second to his older brother and conflicts were common. Caracalla was always second in command and even though imperial propaganda stated that they were a happy family who divided the reign equally, it was far from the truth.

When Severus died in 211, Caracalla had his brother Geta murdered and ordered his name to be removed from all inscriptions. Caracalla also used his brothers’ death as a chance to assassinate all his political enemies on the grounds of conspiring against him with his deceased brother.
